“A Weekend of Storylines”

-0-

Pick and choose what you want to follow this weekend, lots of pay attention to.

TIGER TV….All day it went on, following Tiger on Day One of the Masters of Augusta. 4-bogeys in 9-holes took him away from the leaders. Here comes Jordan Spieth. Five birdies in a row….an opening round of 7-birds and an eagle, as he stormed to the top of the leaderboard as sunset arrived at August. Tough day for Dustin Johnson. Worse day for Jason Day. And then there was the horrors of the 86-type score for Sergio Garcia.

PADRES….Way to take the wind out of the sails of the opening week of the baseball season. They go (1-6) on the homestead, struggle with pitching, not hitting. And now they have 6-on road at Houston and then into Colorado. Horrors if they come off this road trip with a (1-12) record. What do you worry about, Will Myers elbow issue, Brad Hand’s struggles, the Dinelson Lamet elbow injury? The only good news, the arrival and play of free agent Eric Hosmer and the maturity of rookie pitcher Joey Luchessi. The bad news, aside from this road trip, there are 155-games left on the schedule.

HELLO HALOS….Waiting now of the second start of rookie pitcher-DH-Shohei Ohtani. What an opening week, a great first game start, two homers in 3-games as DH, and a complacent attitude dealing with the pressure and the enormous crush of Pacific Rim media.

DODGERS…Off to a (2-5) start, they really miss slugging 3rd baseman Justin Turner. The starting rotation looks shakey too.

CHARGERS….The reports out of Miami are not positive, over the Bolts signing of just released veteran center Mike Pouncey. Reports that Pouncey’s hips are not totally healthy, that he has pain, and that he cannot practice much.

RAMS….Bold about the only way to describe everything about Sean McCoy’s team. They deal for home run hitting receiver Brandin Cooks of the Patriots. That follows the signing of controversial nose tackle Ndamakong Suh, and the deals for explosive personality DBs Marcus Peters and Aqib Taleb.

LAKERS LOSING SEASON…It will be a sub .500-season again, but the positive of the year is the gem that is shooting forward Kyle Kouzma. Still to be determined is how good Lonzo Ball can be. He has had 3-different injuries in an up and down rookie season.

CLIPPERS COLLAPSE….They likely don’t make the postseason, and now the question, do they trade center DeAndre Jordan and begin the massive rebuild. Steve Ballmer, the owner, tried hard, but they never got to the NBA West finals…not with Blake Griffin…not with Chris Paul

AZTECS AWFUL WEEK…San Diego State will pay 4M to fired Lady Aztecs coach Beth Burns for Title IX-Whitsleblower Retaliation. Burns won a bitter lawsuit against the school over her firing after a 27-win season. She will get 1.5M as her part of the settlement, but she may never get her reputation back, over the reasons for her firing, despite the jury decision. The rest of the settlement goes to legal fees.

AZTECS AWFUL WEEK #2….Top assistant coach Justin Hutson leaves after a great run as a key recruiter. He goes to Fresno State to rally the Bulldogs program.

AZTECS AWFUL WEEK #3…Forward Max Montana leaves, despite having one season left. He wants to try his hand playing in Europe. He played really well down the stretch, and in the conference tourney. A tough rebounder defenders and a shooter, he could have become a key veteran component on the roster next season.

KINGS-DUCKS PUCK…They are both going to the playoffs, but how far they go in the NHL postseason is in doubt. Injuries on defense have hurt both teams. Goalie John Gibson has been brilliant but has been hurt four times. Jeff Carter, with 13-goals in 3-weeks has carried the Kings to postseason, but they need more goal scoring help for him.
