CHARGERS-THIS SAYS IT ALL”

-0-

IT HAS BEEN 5-DAYS SINCE CHARGERS OWNER DEAN SPANOS ISSUED HIS 7-SENTENCE STATEMENT HE WAS MOVING THE TEAM TO LOS ANGELES.

HE TOOK A 21-MINUTE FLIGHT TO LOS ANGELES, ENDING A 56-YEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHARGERS FANS IN SAN DIEGO.

DAYS AFTER THE MOVE, WHILE REFUSING TO TALK TO THE SAN DIEGO MEDIA, AND WHILE CONDUCTING A MEDIA TOUR IN LOS ANGELES, WITH SELECT CHOSEN MEDIA, HE WHINED, SAYING HE WAS STUNNED HE WAS BEING PORTRAYED AS A VILLIAN IN HIS HOME TOWN OF SAN DIEGO.

HE SHOULD HAVE ASKED THE MODELL FAMILY, OR THE IRSAY FAMILY, WHAT IT WAS LIKE FOR THEM, WHEN THEY MOVED THE ICONIC BROWNS OUT OF CLEVELAND, OR THE COLTS FROM BALTIMORE.

IT WASN’T JUST A SELECT GROUP OF CRITICAL MEDIA IN SAN DIEGO. IT WAS LOS ANGELES. IT WAS ACROSS THE NATION. AND IF HE WAS UPSET HE, HIS FAMILY, AND HIS NEW LOGO WAS BOOED WHEN SHOWN ON A VIDEO BOARD AT THE STAPLES CENTER DURING A LAKERS GAME, HE SHOULD UNDERSTAND, THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.

A SAMPLING OF WHAT HAS BEEN SAID AND WRITTEN, HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE. WELCOME TO THE REST OF YOUR LIFE DEAN SPANOS.

Not an NFL fan but even I know the Chargers belong in San Diego
Dean Spanos sounds like a putz.
Where do we catch you on the radio?

    Temecula brian

    • Lee Hacksaw Hamilton says:

      Not on radio….
On TV….CW6-XETV…do big sports package every Saturday-Sunday nite (10:35pm)…11-minute package..give it a watch
Check out cw6sandiego.com….my 1-Man’s Opinion segments are posted there…have to crawl down home page to find them..
That plus I write on website everyday

  2. John Paine says:

The only thing good about this move, it cuts the drive 100 miles to see a Raiders v. Chargers game.

This is a disaster, whomever told the NFL commissioner that the Chargers had a following North of South Orange County County lied. Why would the NFL believe that?

If there was ever a regional team that had a fan base of about a 60-75 mile radius it was the San Diego Chargers.

    • Lee Hacksaw Hamilton says:

Wish city leadership would reach out to Raiders…they are national brand..and fans travel…bet they would sell out every home game with team on the rise…bet also city-county could get a 50-plus-1 vote…

  3. John Paine says:

Spano’s home town is not San Diego.

Stockton California is hometown to Spano’s clan.

They are not liked in Stockton either.

    • Lee Hacksaw Hamilton says:

Bad businessman…given franchise by his ruthless father…and now son has wrecked it…
End game was LA all along…all about greed…bet in 3-years he has to sell it

  4. Art Uvaas says:

What a difference a year makes? Stan Kroenke fudged things up for Team Spanos. They would have been welcomed
in the Los Angeles market,(along with the Raiders).

I blame the hotel owners for not allowing construction
of a new stadium, downtown. Why couldn’t they have played
@ PETCO for a few years? Also, I could never figure out why Mission Valley was so undesirable. Freeway access and the parking there was decent.

This move should have focused on Orange County. Dean could have worked with Arte Moreno of the Angels for a new baseball and football stadiums. Bitter Charger fans, I think, would have begrudgingly traveled up the 5, to see them in OC. Charger fans traveling to Carson, forget it, (even at that minor-league, ball-park). Only 25,000–to–30,000 fans will ever attend their games, (even at the new Kroenke Kastle). By 2020, I predict Dean will be forced to sell–vilified even worse than Donald Sterling in Los Angeles–where the team may move back to America’s Finest City; move to Orange County, or, contract altogether.

    • Lee Hacksaw Hamilton says:

Spanos is all about himself and his family…called greed
Hotel people did have a negative impact..but downtown was a ‘rushed idea’ with no input from anyone…
Padres did exact opposite-everyone got involved

Anaheim Stadium no longer a football venue…Petco could not handle dimensions of a football field…

Every move Spanos has made is a failure because he is a failure as a buinsessman…

Qualcomm…city-county-SDSU would have all helped financed this..and he refused to talk to them..he wanted stadium built..given to him free…

Bet within 3-years he will sell team

  5. Robert D. says:

I voted yes for a stadium downtown. I can see San Diego being in a regular super bowl rotation. Hosting a national championship. Maybe bring the NBA back. After the failure of the measure, Dean had the same look on his face as he did when the NFL voted down the move to Carson, pouting like an 8 year old who didnt get his way.

I was a Charger fan since 1970. The Chargers are a reflection of the ownership, a fickle group who will waste away the careers of men who deserved better.

Inexperienced GM’s and Head Coaches will come through the entrance and out the exit with a blemish on their career. Having been a part of the Spanos organization.Inept in so many ways.

Thats what Los Angeles has to look forward to for the next 25 to 30 years.

    • Lee Hacksaw Hamilton says:

Spanos is a bad businessman…has never gotten anything accomplished…team is failing on the field with his sons as leaders on both football and business side..

He did so much philanthropically in San Diego…now he’s washed that all away by this move…all about the greed with him
