“Padres Win-Live to Play Another Day”

———–

it hasn’t been a great season at the plate for anyone in San Diego, not named Manny Machado.

But it has been a great day for a big inning by the Friars in the playoffs.

Because of a 5-run-7 hit inning against LA, the Padres sent the Dodgers home.

And now an explosive 5-run rally rallied them to come from behind and take out the Phillies.

The box scores show the Padres have scored in only 3-innings out of the last 26-innings they have played.  But because of the outbursts, they are headed to Philadelphia, back in the NLCS  series, heading to Philadelphia.

From the depths of despair in the 2nd inning, when the Phillies scored 4-runs on bloop hits and misplays in the sun in the outfield, came the grit this team needed  to pull themselves out of what could have been a 2-0 series lead.

Blake Snell survived a 37-pitch second inning, to lock down the Phillies batting order the rest of the way.

Then the Padres came back.  Brandon Drury HR.  Josh Bell HR got them back going.

Then the earthquake of a 5th inning , with all these slumping bats coming alive. Juan Soto, Austin Nola, Drury again, Bell again.  By the time they were done, they plated 5-runs vs the Phillies just like they did to the Dodgers.

San Diego scored 7-in a row when staring into the abyss.  There is no give in this batting order,  despite the fact the team  was hitting a shade over (.210) in the playoffs.

All this done by a batting order that was starving coming to the plate on Wednesday afternoon:  Soto ().226)…Machado (.258)..Myers (.115)…Bell (.130)..Drury (.067).  Not what you have done, but rather what have you done lately.  Those guys put them back in the series.

They turned it over to the bullpen to give them 4-more innings, just like this pen did to the Mets and Los Angeles.

Now they head back to Citizens Bank Stadium, a home run haven, but they don’t head back down 0-2 in the series, and that is huge.

They head back knowing Joe Musgrove, Home Town Hero, gets the start and that means quality innings, even if that band box of a stadium.

We also know they play 5-games in 6-days starting with the first pitch on Friday night.

And we know the Phillies 3rd and 4th starters are not dominant, and we know the Phillies bullpen has been up and down if asked to go lots of innings.

But they go into a Hornets Nest.  The Phillies pound the ball at home (.260)…107HRs…with 255-extra base hits…and a team that has won 49-times infront of its raging fans.  This will be a challenge, but so was beating the Mets-Dodgers and the Phillies.

It only counts as one win on a Wednesday afternoon, but better to be tied 1-1 going to Philly than being down 0-2 heading out.  And the confidence level of the Friars batting order has to be as high as possible, considering what they did at Citi Field and  Dodgers Stadium, heading into a hitter yard on Friday night.
