“Lakers Basketball-A Mess”

———-

Here we are in August, a month before NBA training camps open, and here we are with the Lakers, a roster of square pegs and round holes.

They have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, two tremendous stars eating up more than half the salary cap.

A dynamic duo, when they are on the court together, but that’s the problem, because both have had major injury problems each of the last two years.

The end result, alot of age, alot of cap space gone, and real chemistry issues.

The Lakers paraded out Carmelo Anthony, and Melo, a shell of himself, Dwight Howard, good for his 6-fouls, and names like Avery Bradley, DJ Augustin, Wayne Ellington.  All are gone and all are still unemployed .

This year’s off season haul includes young journeyman center Thomas Bryant, who was here before, went to Washington, developed as a player and now is back in some type of role.  He reminds me of Kwame Brown.

Guys like Stanley Johnson, Taylen Horton-Tucker, Kendric Nunn are on the roster, so I guess slots 12-thru-15 on the roster are filled.

Two years ago the Lakers had a diverse roster, the stars, plus emerging young talents like Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and chemistry guys like Dennis Schroeder, Alex Caruso and Montrzl Harrell mold.  All were dispatched elsewhere.

The Kuzma group was dealt for Westbrook

Last fall, they debuted with Carmelo Anthony and added Russell Westbrook, and rented for one year, guys they thought would be role players.

The Westbrook group turned into a disaster, with poor play, no defense, and a season long struggle over who should have the basketball.  Bad mojo.

The Lakers have spent their long (non playoff off season) summer looking to deal Westbrook and his 47M contract.

Kyrie Irving, a malcontent of great talent and great problems, wants to come to LA, but Brooklyn doesn’t want Westbrook’s bloated contract and LA refuses to throw in what few #1 picks they have for the future.

Westbrook to Indiana.for Buddy Hield is still out there, but then again the Pacers want young players or those draft picks for taking on the former triple double king.

Might he go back to Oklahoma City, but for what?
Can’t see him living in Utah in a deal, can you?

Meanwhile new coach Darvin Ham is trying to say all the right things, like “I love my roster’.  What roster?

In this off season, the Lakers have dragged in a mish-mash of young players, yet to crack nor impact anyones roster, and this is whom Lakers fans will pay tons of money to go see next winter?

Where do we begin?

Jay Huff, a 7’1-C-a young journeyman will make a difference?  He was undrafted out of Virginia.

Scotty Pippen Junior came in on a 2-way deal and will be a G League guy.
Cole Swider, a college guard out of Syracuse has signed-undrafted too.

Anybody know who Fabian Whtie is?
Road warrior Damien Jones has been on and off rosters in the league.

Javante McCoy gets another opportunity in another NBA camp too, why?
Lonnie Walker a bench sitter-shooter.
Juan Anderson?

Well the Lakers will bring back gritty Austin Reaves and hope a second season with Wenyen Gabriel will bear fruit.. Taylen Horton-Tucker is still here too.  But that surely is not enough.

What a mess.  Square pegs, round holes, ill fits, or misfits.

Glad the new coach spouts superlatives about the roster he loves.  He’s the only one

King James, AD, and what’s left of Mr-Triple Double.

Egads, the Kobe-Shaq era was so long ago.  So was Showtime and Magic.  West-Baylor-Jabbar seems like a lifetime ago.

Be still my heart with this year’s roster.  Don’t want to have a heart attack.

And you thought (33-49) was bad last year.
