Chargers

  • Challenging day as practice gets underway for Jets game on Sunday…San Diego must prepare for both scrambling QB-Geno Smith and move the pocket QB-Michael Vick…Smith struggling with 59% completion rates, 5-picks-2 fumbles, and plenty of overthrows…Vick has thrown only 1-pass this season-but could be the rallying point to turn Jets season around and maybe save Coach Rex Ryan’s job…Jets are averaging an impressive 11Y-per catch from wide receivers…RB’s Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson are averaging almost 5Y-per carry, but turnovers and penalties have hurt team…Jets (1-3) but two of losses have been by 1-touchdown…Jets defensive front is huge-physical led by Sheldon Richardson and Mo Wilkerson and could cause problems for San Diego offensive line.

  • Bolts averaging (351YPG) on offense…(282P) passing….Philip Rivers 70% completion rate….114-QB rating….(9TD-1Int)….Chargers are plus 5-in turnover ratio….WR’s averaging 12YPC…Only negative-Donald Brown (1.9YPC)…Bolts also 14-for-14 scoring when in the redzone.

Washington

  • FCC votes unanimously to terminate the NFL-Blackout rule-means league can no longer hide behind Federal Law they have right to blackout games if not sold out….Opens door for possible lawsuit by fans against NFL….NFL does not have to lift TV blackout rules because of network contract-but could draw enormous national fire if bad games are still blacked out while not sold out.

New York

  • NFL and Union agree on Independent Arbitrator to hear the Ray Rice indefinite suspension appeal…Reports they are looking to hire either Shyam Das, who heard the Ryan Braun baseball appeal or Frederic Horowitz, who handled the 162G-Alex Rodriguez suspension because of their history of sports, unions  and the law.

  • Anshcutz Entertainment Group asks LA City Council for 6-month extension, bypassing October deadline, to find a tenant for proposed Farmer’s Field Stadium downtown…NFL tells LA it believes progress is being made on relocation of a team…Report also AEG is now proposing to build 750-room hotel and do a “Convention Center” project on its own-not involving an NFL stadium…LA willing to discuss the stand alone projects.
