“A MASTERS TO REMEMBER”
=========
The guy from Northern Island looks good in Green..the Green Jacket.
It took 11-years to get it done but Rory McIlroy has won at Augusta.

It was an emotional roller-coaster ride for McIlroy, the fans and a nationwide audience.
It took forever for him to get off the 18th green and get to Butler’s Cabin.

It was obvious McIlroy has become the ‘Fan’s Man’

What a ride.

Blowing an early final round lead with a double bogey on the first hole.
Forging his way back with a relentless run of birdies in the middle of the final round.

There was enormous irons play.
There was a troubled putter, in which he missed 5-short putts on the back nine.
There was a stunning 13th hole tee shot into the water.
Two shots into bunkers
Two shots he had to make from underneath or between trees.

But he rallied with some phenomenal iron shots when he needed perfection.

Justin Rose, the English veteran, was dazzling..reeling off 5-birdies in a 6-hole window, and then sinking an 30′ foot birdie putt on 18 to force the playoff hole.

He pulled away from Bryson DeChambeau who self destructed after getting the lead to start the final round on Sunday.  But he put two shots into the water, drawing double bogeys then fell apart with short putts.

Scottie Scheffler had spurts making shots, and chunks of holes where his game disappeared.  In one stretch over two days, he had 12-birdies and 10-bogeys.  It was not his vintage best.

But for McIlroy, you feltl a 1,000-pound weight fall off his shoulders when he sank the final putt in overtime.  He crashed to the green and wept and wept in tears.  Around him a gallery, some 30-rows deep, roared his name ‘Rory-Rory’.

The collection of golfers streamed to the edge of the green to hug McIlroy, including Irish teammates Shane Lowrey and others.  The adulation continued involving family members and Masters officials.

CBS’ wordsmith voice Jim Nantz was nearly speechless for 18-minutes as they let the nation watch and sense the outpouring of emotion on the course.

It was electric, well deserved, and an example of how great the modern day PGA Tour is, even if there no longer is a Tiger Woods or a Phil Mickelson.

McIlroy has won everything on the Tour, has rebuilt his game twice, has survived injuries and has become a global ambassador, but he had never gone to Butler Cabin for the victor’s ceremonies.

And in Dublin, Derry and Belfast, they will celebrate forever.

The guy from Northern Island looks good in Green.  Rory McIlroy = Masters Champion.
