“LATE BREAKING STORIES”
========
PADRES…John Seidler takes over as the Controlling Person of the team…his statements are much like that of his late brother Peter, talking World Series hopes, and the place of the Padres hold in the fans heart and in the community.

ANYONE WORRIED…a so-called playoff team the Friars are (5-13-1) this spring.  A bunch of guys are not hitting, including all three catchers.  And Robert Suarez has been lit up in 3-of-5 relief appearances and has a ghastly (19.64-ERA).

DODGERS ABROAD…It is bedlam in Japan with the arrival of Shohei Ohtani, the team and the Japanese media entourage.  They open the season next Tuesday, so make your plans (3am-Tuesday) on Fox-TV vs the Cubs.

A SAD STORY…Prayers and money requested for SD Union columnist Bryce Miller, hospitalized in a heroic battle against cancer, which has returned.  His family has helped set up a ‘Go Fund Me’ campaign to help with overwhelming medical payments.  Prayers to a nice man.

RAIDERS..Darkness around the team right now.  All the excitement over the hiring of Pete Carroll has been parked because the team has not done much in free agency, despite a ton of cap space.  And they have taken big hits with the loss of 4-defensive starters jumping to other teams, including Divine Diablo and top CB-Nate Hobbs.

BIDDING WARS…The next 48-hours will be interesting to see who lands QB-Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and just released WR-Cooper Kupp.

LAKERS..LeBron James has left the team on the road, to come back for more intense treatment on the strained groin.  LA still has Milwaukee-Denver left on this road trip and the reality they could go another two weeks without James.

CLIPPERS..They have a hit a wall in the stretch run to the playoffs.  They look tired.  They can no longer cap minutes of Kawhi Leonard, and the lack of bench productivity has put enormous scoring pressure on James Harden.  And there seems no help on the way.

MARCH MADNESS..Selection Sunday coming up, and how cool will it be for both San Diego State and UCSD to get in the field of 64, even if it means somebody goes to Dayton in the play-in games.  An up and down season for the Aztecs.  A once in a lifetime season for the Tritons and coach Eric Olen.

GULLS…it’s been a long-long-too long time, but the Gulls are playing very good team hockey.  A (12-2-2) streak in the AHL-trying to claw their way back into the playoff face with a combo of young snipers and a few rented veteran players making a big difference for Matt McIlvane’s team.
