Golf at it best.  Golf at its longest.  What a Sunday-what a weekend.

Pine trees falling on the golf course.
Driving rain flooding the greens
30-holes of daylong golf on Sunday

And a sad exit by a near crippled superstar

And by the way, a tremendous come from behind win too.

Meet the PGA’s new superstar, the sparkling Spainard, Jon Rahm.  He was relentless, focused, methodical and now he owns a Green Jacket.

The gallery was 20-deep all along the fairway and the 18th green.  There is no doubt Rahm is the hottest golfer on the tour since the 2023 schedule teed off in Hawaii months ago.

There is no doubt either about his toughness, his tenacity, his composure, his mental makeup and his ability to make statement shots.

He came from four strokes down to blow by Brooks Koepka.  He did it regardless of the enormous pressure as the golfer grinded thru an amazing 30-holes of golf on Sunday, making up the final stages of the 3rd day rain delay round and then promptly teed off to play the final round hours later.

It was a stunning demise for Koepka, who earns his pay on the LIV tour.  After storming thru all the storms on Friday and Saturday, he fell apart on Sunday.   He went 21-straight holes without a birdie.  He took 4-bogeys and by the time he started hitting shots it was too late, despite 3-birdies on the final 4-holes.

I wouldn’t call it a choke job, but maybe fatigue, or just maybe the superb talents of Rahm.

Phil Mickelson had the best day in years, the best tourney he has played in years, this 8-birdie 65-day that allowed him to tie Koepka.  No one saw this coming for nothing has been right with Lefty since he jumped to the Saudi Super League.

It was a sparkling day for injury prone Jordan Spieth, who wound up with 9-birdies on his Sunday card to come home 4th

It was a sad farewell for Tiger Woods, last seen dragging his injured left leg off the course on Saturday after back to back double bogeys at the end of his third round.  The plantar fasciitis in that withered leg took its toll and when he left, he was in last place, 22-strokes behind the leader.

Sad to see from someone so great once upon a time, but no longer the same player, much less the same person because of his troubled life.

But America has a new hero and he has earned this, Jon Rahm, looking good in the Green Jacket at Butler’s Cabin.
