“Bowl Games-Best We’ve Seen”

============

Yes there are 42-bowl games.
Yes they had had to take some (6-6) or (6-7) teams to fill bowl spots
Yes some of the games have drawn anywhere from 16,000 down to 9,000

But when the big boys play, they put on a show.

TCU-MICHIGAN…Anyone expect this outcome, ever?  Michigan, big, tough, violent,  powerful, deep.  Last time we saw them they torched then unbeaten Ohio State.  Well Texas Christian out toughed the Wolverines in every aspect of the game, and despite a furious comeback by UM, TCU would not be denied

Where do you start.  Is it with Horn Frogs ripping off big plays worth (263Y) rushing against Michigan?  Is it with the do everything QB-Max Duggan’s (282-All Purpose Yard) day worth 4TDs.

All that while unleashing big plays covering 46-69-76 yards and adding on a 31Y-punt return.   The Frogs didn’t blink either when Michigan answered with plays of 50-58-59 yards.

Or was it the guys wearing Purple on defense, who made the Maize & Blue-Black & Blue.  Let me count the ways TCU did this with their defense.
..2-Pick 6-TD Interceptions
..4th down stop at the 2-yard line
..Fumble recovery in the end zone
..12-tackles for losses
..(3-for-13) on 3rd down defense
..Surviving JJ McCarthy’s (343Y) passing day
..Surviving a 59Y-field goal.

The two teams combined for (1,013Y) in a wild finish.

Texas Christian has not won a college football championship since 1938-during the glory days of Davey O’Brien days at quarterback.

Michigan is staggering with this disappointment.  TCU is moving on to the finals.
What a team Sonny Dykes has put together in Ft-Worth.  How crummy they must feel in Ann Arbor.

GEORGIA-OHIO STATE….What a wild day, what a tremendous finish, what offense, what fatigue by both defenses.

So out of character too, for Georgia, with its big burly defense nearly caving in, and then the  Buckeyes defense  caving in again, with flashbacks to the blowout loss to Michigan still fresh in everyone’s minds.

How about QB-Stetson Bennett, the walk-on, JUCO transfer, leading the Bulldogs back to the title game with his electrifying touchdown drives, two of them, on the final 2-series of the game?

Bennett threw for (398Y-3TD) and since they could not run the ball, in this game, he kept on firing.

Buckeyes QB-CJ Stroud tried to match him throw for throw, but once he lost WR-Marvin Harrison, and with the loss of his running game due to nagging injuries, Ohio State’s offense went away.  Stroud did everything, but even his (348Y-4TD) passing day was not enough.

Must be an awful start to the New Year for Ryan Day, these two bad blowout losses the final two games of what was an unbeaten season.

When it was over, they could not keep up,  they were done, There was an even (1,000Y) combined offense.  Ohio State missed a 50Y-field goal on the final play that was not close.

Don’t know if next Monday’s championship game in Los Angeles can top what we saw in Phoenix and Atltanta.

But I know this, Georgia is no longer a Ground and Pound offense.
And those Horned Frogs, are indeed ‘Texas Tough’.

Bowl season, lots of fireworks in lots of locations.  And more to come.
