“QB Moves Begin”

====================

The first domino has fallen involving NFL-quarterbacks on the move.

NFL sources say by the time NFL free agency is over, and the draft has taken place, 17-teams may be involved in quarterback moves, either thru trades, free agency or draft picks.

A quick look at what just happened, and what could happen.

SAINTS…Despite enormous cap problems, the Saints created a (4Y-150M) package to lure Derek Carr to Bourbon Street.  The big issues is what he will have around him, since WR-Michael Thomas (cap) and Alvin Kamara (assault indictment) have issues.  Goodbye Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton.

JETS..They keep talking about keeping both Mike White-Zach Wilson on the roster despite up and down years.  Out of the mix  for Carr, there is still Aaron Rodgers out there.  The issues, what type of salary will it take, what kind of draft pick currency will you have to use, and what is Rodgers psyche about leaving a winner, the Packers, to play for a loser, the Jets.

HOUSTON…Horrid offense, no QB in the building but do have the 2nd pick in the draft, so they might get Bryce Young or CJ Stroud if they sit tight.  Somebody might jump infront of them and get the 1st pick owned by the Bears, but they get one of top two QBs on the board.

49ers…Jim Garoppolo exits with a (31-14) recod and a list of lots of injuries.  The other two QBs are coming off surgery.  Trey Lance has yet to prove how good he can be heading to year three.  Brock Purdy proved much, but is now headed to a long rehab with that major elbow surgery the end of this week.  They will go rent a veteran once Jimmy G-exits.

RAIDERS…No quarterback to trust with the release of Carr.  Are they a landing spot for Rodgers?  Might there be a reunion with matching head coach Josh McDaniels and Jim Garoppolo and their days in New England?  Do they have the ability to trade up to get CJ Stroud.

CAROLINA…Been a long tine since glory days with Cam Newton.  They gave up on Baker Mayfield, have let Sam Darnold go on the open market, were turned down by Derek Carr.  Drafting 9-they need to do alot of homework on the next tier of QBs not name Young-Stroud.  Is Will Leavis the right guy?  What do you make of the interestig weekend with Anthony Richardson of Florida.  Is their a second tier free agent QB they might rent?  Does Frank Reich have any eligibility left?

WASHINGTON…The Carson Wentz era was 1-and-done.  They like rookie Sam Howell, have given up on Taylor Heinike and seem like they will rent a vet in case Howell is not ready.  The RG3 years, the tragedy of Dwayne Haskins, the franchise seems cursed at the position.

COLTS…Have never recovered from Andrew Luck’s retiremeht.  They went thru 1year rentals like Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan.  One of a myriad of problems jin Indianapolis.

TENNESSEE…Sure looks like a tear down-rebuild has begun in Nashville.  Ryan Tannehill is not what he was before and the roster around him is less than it what was.  He may be starting somewhere else in the fall.

ATLANTA…They drafted Desmond Ridder and he started at the end of the season.  Marus Mariota is gone, released back into free agency.

RAVENS…No one expects star Lamar Jackson to depart, but he is asking for big bank money, all guaranteed too.  More than likely, a franchise tag on him.

PACKERS…Aaron Rodgers, leaving Green Bay, hard to understand.  Who’s got the cap space?  Are the Packers tired of his high drama off seasons?  They do believe Jordan Love is ready to replace like Rodgers, like Rodgers replaced Brett Favre?

GIANTS…Are you giving Daniel Jones (45M) after one very good season on a bad franchise?  He had just 15-TD passes last year.  Do they franchise tag him on a one year deal?

TAMPA BAY…It has been very quiet story with the Bucs, but there has to be a replacement for Tom Brady?  A rental? A trade? A potential development QB.  Stay tuned.

SEATTLE…They don’t need a QB but they say they will draft one despite sighing Geno Smith to a (3Y105M) extension on Monday.  The Seahawks are looking towards the future.

That’s 15-teams out of 32-teams with critical decisions coming on quarterbacks.

Some off season ahead of us as we enter free agency, the draft, and the trading season.
