Rate the QBs”

———-

It was the opening weekend of preseason games, and the spotlight was on new quarterbacks in new places around the NFL.

A quick look at the storylines:

JETS…Could have been a devastating blow, when 2nd year QB-Zach Wilson went down rolling out, when his foot caught in the turf.  Lucky it was meniscus, not cartilage-but you have to open the season with an aging Joe Flacco running the offense.

BROWNS…He got booed right from the start, and booed each time he threw the ball.  Not a good start for Deshaun Watson (1-5) for 7-yards in his debut.  We will see if the discipline comes this week.  Jacoby Brissett will be the starter on opening day.  The Browns now know Watson will be Public Enemy #1-all year long.

STEELERS…That was impressive, 1st round pick Kenny Pickett’s debut.  He went (9-for-9) out of the gate when he got on the field in the second half, and finished (13-for-15) with 2TD passes, an impressive display for a raw rookie.

CAROLINA…Baker Mayfield played one series but it was a 13-play drive that led to a game opening field goal.  He looks like the leader for the starting job.

CAROLINA..A bad start for rookie Matt Corral, the rookie from Ole Miss, who went (1-for-9) in his debut.

TITANS…Malik Willis completed 6-passes in his debut, but the 6-for-11 outing covered only 58-yards and had alot of dump and run in it.  Yes he ran for 38-yards, scrambling from trouble, but it looked like a panic-stricken group of series for him

PACKERS…It was rocky for Jordan Love, who threw 2TDs but 3-interceptions when he started for Green Bay in the first game.  He just needs lots of snaps. and experience if he is to be the future.

SEATTLE…It sure looks like Pete Carroll is going forward with either Geno Smith or Drew Lock.  Pretty good first game, a combined (21-30)-203 yards for the Seahawks, who are in total rebuild mode

FALCONS..Marcus Mariota may be the starter but the future may be Desmond Ridder.  The rookie scrambled, throwing for 77=yards and ran for 59-yards and led Atlanta to 2-TDs.  He will play more the final two games.

49ERS…Trey Lance is the starter and he threw a 76-yard TD bomb early and went (4-5)-for 92-yards passing in their first game.  Of course everyone is waiting for a decision on Jim Garoppolo.

WASHINGTON…Carson Wentz started (10-13)-74Y in his first game in Burgundy-Gold, but rookie Sam Howell-North Carolina was really impressive when it was rookies vs rookies.   Will see if Wentz can reclaim the success he had with the Eagles, that was washed away by struggles at the end in Philadelphia and the late season Indianapolis collapse.

BRONCOS…Russell Wilson did not play opening weekend.

COLTS…Matt Ryan threw for only 62-yards in his Colts debut playing a couple of series with a couple of starters on the field.

Weekend two is ahead of us.
