Padres…Manny Machado informs Padres he will opt out of his contract at end of the season…saying the ‘Market place has changed’ and ‘I have the right to explore free agency’.

Padres..USA Today reports Machado demanded a (10Y-400M) contract to go into effect next year, replacing the (30M) a year deal that would still have 5-years to run.  No negotiations took place after Machado demand…Machado would have collected (550M) over 15-year period if Padres had met the demand.

Padres..Union Tribune reported Machado was offered a (5Y-105M) extension that would have been added on to current contract, meaning he would have gotten (255M) over the final 10-years of his extended contract.  Machado had given the Padres a deadline of February 16th to make the offer.  No negotiations took place after Padres offer.

Padres..Full roster reports on Monday in Peoria…1st full team workout is Tuesday though a large contingent will leave to head to respective World Baseball Classic camps.
