LAKERS…Surprised by first night playoff win..Loss of Doncic-Reaves offset by last minute loss of Kevin Durant…Superb start by Luke Kennard (27P) and DeAndre Ayton (19P)..Big question-can they duplicate it again in Game two on Tuesday…Lakers defense was everywhere holding Houston to (38%) shooting…Rockets play rugged defense but don’t like their carelessness with basketball and the stupid fouls they take…Friday was just one game-one win..see what happens when Durant returns on Tuesday.
CLIPPERS…Nice phrase ‘Win with Kawhi’…see if NBA drops hammer whenever they finish the Kawhi Leonard-Salary cap probe…Hate to think the word ‘Whitewash’ is part of this probe.
PLAYOFFS..Does any of this matter until we get to the NBA East-West finals..Oklahoma City-San Antonio-Detroit-Boston seem to be on a different level.
PADRES..They are hitting well now, but some of that against inferior pitching..Still worried about lack of starting pitching, though Buehler-Marquez are scuffling thru some impressive starts…Fascinating to see ‘Sir Smoke’ Mason Miller’s work out of the pen.
ANGELS..Nice start to the season-though the horrors in the bullpen keep happening.
DODGERS…Must see TV, whether it is Ohtani pitching or the Home Run Derby batting order.
METS..10-game losing streak with the highest payroll in baseball…Say what?
NFL DRAFT…Survey of mock drafts for Thursday’s first round…17-defense players and 7-offensive lineman go in first round…That’s 24-of-32 picks non-skill players.
TRADE RUMORS..Could be some big time deals with reports 3-teams up top of first round willing to trade back…Cincinnati already moved #5 pick to the Giants.
CHARGERS..Don’t buy GM-Joe Hortiz statements…Has not done enough in free agency to fill holes and is in ‘No Man’s Land’ at #22..top OL and top LB will be off the board.
RAMS..Silence is deafening about Puka Nacua mental health issues..Still in rehab center in Malibu…What do they do with their top pick..WR-OT?
KINGS..What a mountain to climb, facing the Colorado Avalanche to start the playoff series.
DUCKS..Superb season but tailed off at the end of the NHL schedule, went from 1st place to 4th..and having to go into Edmonton to face the Oilers, with a history of playoff failure around their neck in the Connor McDavid era.
GULLS..Nice progress with young team, but faded also at the end of AHL season and that means all 3-playoff games in the on the road against the Colorado Eagles. Seems unfair when you consider Guls could draw over 12,000 for home playoff games, which they have not had in 5-years.
