“March Madness-Carry On”

=============

I don’t know how college basketball can top what we have seen in the modern day game, but they will attempt to today.

March Madness begins with history giving us the back drop to the first round games both Thursday and Friday.

Is there a 16-seed that can beat a number 1-seed ever again?  Only happened once in the history of the tourney since it expanded to 64-teams.  Remembering Maryland-Baltimore County.

You know this tournament, buzzer beaters, 111-point games like Loyola Marymont, the 4-corner offense of Dean Smith-North Carolina.  The brute strength of Patrick Ewing and Georgetown.  All things Ralph Sampson and Virginia.  Phi Slamma Jamma-Houston Cougars.  Jim Valvano rushing the floor at NC State.

We have seen days with names like George Mason, St Peters, VCU, Butler, Florida Gulf Coast  stepping on board Cindarella’s carriage too.

Christian Laettner’s last second turnaround jumper.  The Hoyas’ mistake on a critical timeout.  The Michigan Fab 5-team.  The Syracuse Orange zone defense.

The history of the ACC, the uprising of the Big East, the growth of the SEC-Big 1, and all the memories of the Wizard of Westwood-UCLA..

The voices of the game like Dick Vitale, Al McGuire, Billy Packer and Bill Raftery.

Roll that ball out the floor and get ready to lose your mind, for it is March Madness.

And one final note, the losing ends on Thursday at San Diego State.

Good program, good coach, good kids, good players.  The Aztecs take the first step on their own march thru the Madness.

Enjoy it all.
